Ways to Market Your Small Business

Marketing a small business can be difficult as you don’t have the brand exposure that the larger companies have. However, there are ways to market your small business and gain a better reputation than the bigger businesses out there.

With larger companies, they only have to make one mistake in one store or one customer unhappy and suddenly, everybody knows about it, whereas, when you’re a smaller business, you can take the time to get to know your customers which increases the chances of them becoming a loyal customer. However, there are some downsides to being a small business, one of which is that you don’t have the budget to fund a large digital marketing campaign.

So, let’s look at some of the ways that you can market your small business on a tight budget.

Use Social Media to Your Advantage

Social media is free to use and almost everyone is on it which is why it’s such a good idea to get active on these platforms. It’s highly likely that your target audience will be on here at some point throughout the day. During holiday periods, people will be overly active creating the perfect opportunity to get your foot in the door.

You also have an advantage that independent stores are now becoming even more popular than larger chains since people prefer to feel as though they matter to a business. You also create loyal friends and customers while running an independent business.

Ask your friends and family to like and share your social media accounts and get customers to leave reviews to ramp up your representation.

Print Media

People don’t tent to use print media as much as they used to. However, the fact remains that it is still very effective, especially to a smaller business. It can sometimes be expensive, but that will depend on where you’re looking. No-one is saying that you must purchase it all at once either. You could set some of your money aside for business cards and ask family and friends to pass them out. Or, if you’re a local business you could post business cards and flyers through letter boxes.

Remember to include your social media details on all print media, along with contact details so people know how to contact you.

Stay Customer Orientated

Remaining customer orientated allows you to maintain a loyal customer base. This is essential when running an independent business as you need loyal customers to help you stay afloat. Always remember that you are representing your business and you will want to maintain a friendly and professional image.

Seasonal Content

Make a plan at the start of each year, think about seasonal content, events and offers such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday that you can market to attract a wider audience. Stay ahead of the game by creating your content early so everything is ready for you to upload on to your different platforms.

A Free Gift

Once your business picks up a little, try some promotions to help draw in more customers. Even if you aren’t ready to give things away for free, try a reduced-price offer for example when they spend over a certain amount. You can promote this through posters, social media or by handing out business cards to customers in the hope they’ll pass them on.
