On-Site Web Spam Factors
Periodically we write micro blogs about elements that are influential in search engine optimisation (SEO). These are just short snippets that could help increase your websites visibility.
#8 Today’s blog is about… On-Site Web Spam Factors.
Meaningless Content
Google can identify content that is classed as “gibberish”, helpful when it comes to picking out the auto-generated content. You do run this risk of your website being penalised if you have used auto-generated content.
Over Optimising Your Site
Site-over optimisation is a real thing. People often refer to it as, “over-optimisation penalty”. This involves, excessive keyword decoration and keyword/header tag stuffing.
Doorway Pages
If your page redirects the user to another page, it is referred to as a ‘doorway’ page. Doorway pages are not liked by Google, hence, your ranking is effected. If you get caught doing so, then your site may be de-indexed. Therefore, it is important that users see the page that you are displaying to Google.
Popup’s
According to the Google Rater Guidelines Document, pop up ads and distracting ads are an indicator that a site is of a low quality. Some sites that display full page ads may be penalised if they’re caught.
Meta Tag Spamming
Keyword stuffing can also occur within meta tags. So, it’s important to only add keywords that are relevant to your page. Your site may also be penalised for adding too many keywords in descriptions and titles so stick to the guidelines.
