Off-Site Web Spam Factors

Periodically we write micro blogs about elements that are influential in effective search engine optimisation (SEO). These are just short snippets that help improve your sites visibility.

#6 Today’s blog is about… Off-site web spam factors.

Irrelevant Links

If you are linking other sites in to your own that aren’t related to the content topic, it can result in a Google penalty. Even adding links of a low-quality can result in a decrease in SERP so ensure in-bound links are from sites relevant to your industry.

Linking Articles

People have linked articles and press releases in to their sites way too many times now. Google may consider these types of links to be a link scheme as it has been in so many cases.

Unnatural Links

Google is smart and has the technology to determine whether or not links to a page are legitimate. So, stick to credible links from sites with a decent domain authority.

Sandbox

Newer sites that have a sudden influx of links added to their pages can occasionally be put in the “Google Sandbox”. This is designed to reduced their site visibility for a specific amount of time until Google can determine the validity of them.
