Building Your Long Lasting Brand

Your brand is the heart and soul of any marketing campaign. Building your long lasting brand can take a lot of time and hard work. However, when done correctly, it has the power to be something great. You have a much higher chance of success when you create a strong, appealing product/service that is part of a well respected brand. Your brand is shaped by your company’s beliefs, reputation, quality and perception.

A brand isn’t just a logo or tag line, it’s a partnership that grows as consumers invest financially and emotionally. Getting your customers to invest emotionally can be difficult to achieve. However, it’s this that really shapes a positive reputation.

People are more likely to invest emotionally:

  • When you deliver a high quality product or service
  • When they receive quality customer support that exceeds their expectations
  • If they’re rewarded for their loyalty

Emotional investment increases and prices start to creep upwards, when all of the above happen regularly. This can be a dangerous game as people will tend to resort to cheaper products. It’s at this point that you need to be thinking about how to maintain a loyal customer base. Some company’s have come up with great ideas such as reward programs, customer journeys, service protocols, membership discounts and much more. No matter how big, small, new or old your business is, building brand equity is so important for maintaining customer loyalty.

Whether you’re starting up a new business or have been working within your industry for some time, take time out to reflect on how you are marketing your brand. Keep in mind that building your long lasting brand can take time. You should be selling more than just your products. You need to provide emotional fulfilment that is in line with customers’ values. Your brand identity isn’t just your logo, colours, images and general marketing, it’s about how you connect with your audience. It’s also about maintaining your good reputation and the promises you stick to.

Updating Your Brand

When your business has been around for a while and is coming to a standstill, think about what you can do to increase business. However, just because you may be bored with your logo, it doesn’t mean that your customers are. Drastic product and brand changes rarely work. It’s risky and can end up costing a lot of money. There are other ways of attracting more business without changing your overall look. If you think that it’s time to make some adjustments, start off small, such as a subtle colour change. If you were to change your logo completely, you could be jeopardising all the hard work that you have put in as even loyal customers may not recognise your company. Only make changes when it’s absolutely necessary. If your customers need newer products or the old ones adapting then make the changes to suit their evolving needs. You should only make changes when your audience’s needs are changing or your product is now viewed as out of date.

You don’t have to have the fanciest logo or name to be successful. Of course this helps but it’s not always essential. When you think about it, some brands have the most simple names and logo but are highly successful. Look at Apple for example, even their logo is just an apple and they are one of the most successful businesses within their industry. It’s the marketing and work that goes on behind the brand name that makes the difference.
