Last week, Google started sending warnings to websites that have “critical mobile usability errors”, in other words websites that are not geared up for mobile devices such as smart phones, iPads, tablets etc.
Although these are just warnings and they don’t yet mean a penalty, it’s time to look at how mobile-friendly your site is and get a mobile plan before Google gets more serious about it (before it adds more weight to the mobile-friendliness ranking factor).
As you can see below, Google tested a site and concluded the pages were not mobile friendly and as it states, ‘the pages will therefore be displayed and ranked appropriately for smartphone users’. In other words, will rank BELOW mobile friendly sites.
With over 50% of Google searches occurring on mobile devices Google wants to ensure its visitors have a great user experience so if you’re on a mobile device it will add more weight to mobile friendly sites in search results.
